All first generation attic solar pool heater documents (PCS1 and also known as the first green machine solar pool heater) apply to SolarAttic's second and third generation attic solar pool heaters except for some of the electrical wiring diagrams and unit specs. When we created our second generation solar pool heater, we changed the motor spec from 220 vac to 115 vac to make it easier from an installation standpoint. The third generation unit continues with the 115 vac design but switched from an axial fan assembly to an internal squirral cage blower assembly further lowering the physical profile of the unit.
Therefore, the second and third generation attic solar pool heaters incorporate a much smaller physical footprint to make it easier to install through smaller attic openings. These units can be installed through a small 2x2 foot closet opening. The first generation solar pool heater often required a custom and larger attic opening.
The Installation and Technical Manual supplied with the first generation solar pool heater is more comprehensive than the manual supplied with the second and third generation attic solar pool heaters. The PCS1 Manual contains a theory of heat transfer section including heat transfer curves and other solar design data that the second and third generation solar pool heaters do not incorporate. This reference material shown in the manual of our first solar pool heater also applies to the second and third generation designs as the heat transfer factors of all of our solar pool heaters are almost identical for the heat exchanger units used.
Because the design material presented in the first solar pool heater manual is not reproduced in the second and third generation manuals, we have left this material online to download as needed. Many of the plumbing diagrams linked below complement the second and third generation solar pool heater diagrams supplied in the PCS2 and PCS3 Installation and Operating Manuals. The PCS1 and PCS2 are no longer manufactured. See the third generation solar pool heater link above for the latest information.
